Teaching and Communication

I love teaching and doing science communication. I believe that science should be for everyone, and I can contribute by not only doing my research but also helping others understand it.

I have taught Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Pharmacology at the MIP Institute for years, and I love to go to the basics and explain, for example, how drugs are absorbed and distributed in the body, how bacteria can create resistance to antibiotics, how fungi can be used to degrade waste, how microorganisms are essential for human, animal and plant life.

Back at the university, I did several Teaching Assistantships (TAs), from Biochemistry (in both Spanish and English) to Cell Biology and Bioethics. I simplify complex concepts and processes so that people can understand the basics and then build knowledge on top. I try to link what I teach to everyday examples so my students can remember it and apply it to their lives. And above all, I love to draw and do schematics. That is how I learn the fastest, so that is how I teach, too.

I have also done a few videos from which I hope to bring biochemistry closer to students. Complex concepts can be broken down into simpler ideas!
